Rodgers odds on to land Royals post
It seems increasingly likely that current Watford boss Brendan Rodgers will be appointed the new Reading manager some time in the near future. Nicky Hammond is showing due care and diligence in carefully sifting through the applications and with the Hornets keen to retain the services of Rodgers nothing is certain, however it all points to the Irish man taking charge for the new season. Other names in the frame are PNE boss Alan Irvine, and Darren Ferguson who has guided Peterborough into the Championship. Strangely enough I saw somewhere that bookies Victor Chandler had installed Alan Pardew as second favourite at 9/4. Surely some mistake?! Who do you think would be best for us and why?...

Well I don't think it will be Fergie Jr - Peterborough have denied us permission to speak to him and would Mr Mad, sorry Sir Mad, do the dirty and go behind their backs? Doubt it, sounds too expensive. Rodgers is my guess too but apart from the media reports know little about the guy so it hardly floats my boat. Saying that, i'm not sure who would! It seems there are a fair few positions available at the mo and it might mean the better candidates and going to go for those jobs before us (Sunderland, Wigan, Celtic etc...) Anyway Brendan Rodgers, Ted Rodgers, Lisa Rodgers, Jolly Rodgers, either way get back to Old Lady (TM)'s side where you belong!
Alan Irvine's name seems to have slipped away in recent days. I think Darren Ferguson could have been a good choice but that seems to be scuppered as John Madejski's pockets are not that deep. Martinez would be an excellent choice but it seems he is on his way to Wigan. So that does leave Brendan Rodgers. He knows the club, lives in Reading and spent time at Chelsea working with the Great One - he's still young but could be an interesting choice. Has he got the experience though?
No murmurs about Gus Poyet recently - seems he didn't make the short list. No doubt we'll see in a week or so!!
